FESTIVAL DEVELOPMENT AND CULTURAL CONTEXT

The Spanish Film Showcase in Chengdu was initially conceived as a larger-scale festival, with a broad programme including films from different international distributors and a diverse representation of contemporary and classic Spanish cinema.

Due to local regulations governing film exhibition, the final selection was adapted to a programme of officially approved titles, ensuring public screening within the local cultural framework. Despite these limitations, the event maintained its curatorial approach, presenting a coherent and representative selection of Spanish cinema.

The showcase combined screenings with complementary activities such as presentations and live events, creating a space for dialogue between cultures and audiences. The project contributed to strengthening cultural ties between Spain and China, while offering Chinese audiences access to Spanish cinematic works in a shared cultural environment.
