Project Description:
Cultural and cinematic project jointly organized by Almost Red Productions, the Embassy of Spain in China, and Studio 1958 in Chengdu, conceived as a film showcase dedicated to the promotion of contemporary and classic Spanish cinema in the city of Chengdu. The event was designed as a multidisciplinary program combining film screenings with parallel activities, opening and closing ceremonies, public presentations, and live performances, with the aim of bringing Spanish film culture closer to Chinese audiences and fostering cultural exchange between both countries.
FESTIVAL DEVELOPMENT AND CULTURAL CONTEXT

The Spanish Film Festival in Chengdu was initially conceived as a longer-running event, with an extensive program featuring films from various international distributors and a diverse representation of both contemporary and classic Spanish cinema.

Eventually, the final selection was adapted to a program of titles approved by the audiovisual department of Sichuan Province, ensuring public screenings within the local cultural framework. This adjustment made it possible to shape the event as a sustainable showcase intended to continue in the future, while guaranteeing optimal screening conditions.

As part of the official program, several films from the ICAA catalogue dedicated to the international promotion of Spanish cinema were screened, a collection commonly used in showcases organized by Spanish embassies and cultural institutions abroad.

In addition to film screenings, the festival included opening and closing galas, public presentations, audience encounters, and live performances, establishing the event as a comprehensive cultural experience beyond the strictly cinematic format.

Audience response was highly positive, with strong attendance and near-capacity screenings at most sessions, confirming the interest of Chengdu audiences in Spanish cinema and in international cultural initiatives of this kind.
