Project Description:
Audiovisual awareness campaign addressing rural depopulation and the need for entrepreneurship in rural areas, produced by Almost Red Productions in collaboration with Lionfreak and directed by Roberto F. Canuto together with Hernán F. Joglar.

The campaign consists of seven 30-second audiovisual pieces structured around interviews with prominent figures from Asturian culture, reflecting on belonging, territory, and the importance of creating new opportunities in rural areas. Participants include Rodrigo Cuevas, Xosé Ambás, Arantxa Margolles, María Torres, Natalia Restrepo, Telina Álvarez, and Pau Santirso.

The pieces are designed for distribution across various media and platforms, including online channels and potential broadcast on the public television network of the Principality of Asturias, as part of a social impact initiative aimed at fostering engagement with rural communities.
A “RETURN TO THE VILLAGE” CAMPAIGN TO PROMOTE RENTAL

Since 2018, the El Prial Association, based in eastern Asturias, and the Edes Foundation, in the west, have been developing the “Return to the Village” program—an initiative aimed at combating rural depopulation and encouraging the settlement of new residents in the territory.

One of the main obstacles identified in this process is access to housing. In rural areas, long-term rental homes are scarce, partly due to the growth of vacation rentals in tourist zones, but also because of other structural factors that keep many homes closed.

In Asturias, there are more than 100,000 vacant homes, most of them located in rural areas. Reopening these closed houses and bringing life back to villages is one of the core goals of the ¡Alquila Ho! campaign, which relies on the involvement of property owners and local communities.

The campaign uses audiovisual language and the voices of Asturian cultural figures as tools for awareness, appealing to collective responsibility and highlighting the transformative potential of rental housing as a means to reactivate rural territories.
